Around 1,745 students and 43 teachers of the Leodegario Victorino Elementary School in Marikina City
benefited from the water project of Rotary Club of Marikina West, District 3800. In a simple
ceremony held on Feb. 20, 2006 at the school premises attended by teachers, parents and students,
Club President Rodelle Bolante, and officers and spouses of Marikina West, formally turned-over
a drinking foundatin with a built-in purifier, which was installed earlier by Rotarians. The affair
was witnessed by Rotary International District 3800 Assistant Governor, Anastacio Umali, himself a
Marikina resident.
Graced by Marikina City Vice-Mayor Marion Andres who commended the project as being in line with
the city's "In the Pink of Health" program, the donation was accepted by school principal Lourdes
Larios. In her welcome speech and acceptance, Larios expressed gratitude to Marikina West for its
worthwhile endeavor of providing clean and safe drinking water to the public school students in the
area. Marikina West started this project two years ago with the installation of a water purifier at
the Tanong High School in Marikina benefitting more than 2,000 students.
Marikina West president Bolante, a lawyer, announced that the club's continuing project will be
completed next year with the installation of a similar drinking fountain in Barangka Elementary
Public School. The Rotary Club of Marikina West is a club composed of civic-minded professionals
and businessmen who mostly reside in Provident Village and surrounding areas. It may be contacted
